I have a 500 that will no longer take the second shell in the mag tube. I pulled the bbl off and I can see the spring crossed up and sideways in the small threaded hole in the end. Can the magazine be removed to fix the spring? It looks like it may thread out of the receiver, has anyone had theirs apart?
Thanks.
I know it's not the plug, the plastic follower also does not push out to the end any more either and had no problem getting a second shell in before.

O.K., what sort of tool do you use to loosen it, a rubber strap wrench? or should it come by hand? I don't have the gun here with me to try, happy to here it is fairly simple.

it comes out by hand. It is just a threaded tube. It might have to be placed in a vice to hold it as you turn the mag tube. Mossbergs are super easy to completely strip and rebuild. When you get the mag tube off and clean it all out, I suggest using blue loc-tite when you put it back together ( so it doesnt get loose by accident).
No special tools or equipment needed, just a strong grip and a twist.

If its a newer Mossy the factory put locktite like locker on the threads. I used my heat gun to break it free on mine. A strap wrench was used also. The very front of the tube is re enforced and will stand squeeze pressure. The rest of the tube will not.
