Hey CGN,

I bought my Mossberg 500 from Cabellas around 2011. It was a combo kit with the 18 1/2” and 26” barrels. The fore stock has pins that hold it to the dual action bars, as well as a spring clip on the top.

My question is how many Mossbergs have the pinned fore stock like this on CGN? I’m working on a replacement fore stock that has picatinny side rails and a removable bottom rail. Leave a comment if you have this model, or if you have since upgraded it.

I was told that Mossberg ship different fore-end grip for different "grade" of the Mossberg 500.
The cheaper one-piece grip is for those combo deal you get in Cabellas / Bass Pro etc
You can still get the sliding tube type fore-end from Brownell.... I think

There’s nothing wrong with my fore end, I’ve gone through 1000s of rounds. I just wanted a change, without having to buy the Mossberg Slide Action, castle nut and new fore end.

I knocked the “non-removable pins” out. It wasn’t to hard.

Here’s a picture of the pins, they have a small o ring around the top.

my old 500 with wood is same as yours.

wouldnt it be easier and stronger just to get some sections of pic rail and screw and glue them to the current forend?

Yes, it would be easier. I doubt it would be stronger though. There’s webs that run directly at 6 o clock, preventing a screw from sinking in straight. I also doubt that glue would hold a rail, but I’d love to see what our fellow CGN come up with.

I have the 535, it has the same style hand guard , pinned in place.
I do know that a 500 with a steel tube and connected action bars will fit, but you need to get the correct length as that is caliber length specific.... ie mine is a 3.5 chamber, I'd have to get longer action bars...
In my case there isn't any.

The 3" chamber bar length I think is 7.5", for when you get another tube to convert.

I bought the 500 Combo in 2013 and it had the same pinned forend. I ended up buying a Promag slide action tube assembly and a Magpul MOE forend. I believe both of those are now discontinued (Magpul makes the forend for the 590 only now).

Testing complete, had to make some changes to the fore stock. After testing with PLA+, PLA-CF, and PETG I decided to go with PLA-CF. The stuff is amazing, prints great and the CArbon Fibers help with resisting wear to the internal fins. Just some live fire testing next and if all is good, look for a EE ad up in the future. If you are interested in one for yourself, PM me. Price should be about $100 plus ship. Will come with a removable aluminum 13 slot m-lok picatinny rail on bottom.

Was out at the farm on the weekend, and had a chance to work the new fore stock in. I figured it would be a good test of the CF-PLA. Temperature was about -25c. I made sure the Mossberg was frozen before I started testing.

The fore stock was performing perfectly. It chewed through all the 2 3/4” shells I could throw at it. She ate the 2 3/4” buckshot and slugs no problem. Then came the 3” Magnum buckshot. The CF-PLA decided to split, right where the action bars attach to the stock. Damn thing blew one of my pins out into the snow, yea that’s a goner. The other pin was stuck in the plastic. I’m thinking 12g > CF-PLA at this point. Video will be posted to Twitter.

Doing some research, it seems the 3D printing gunnies like PETG for their frames. I will re-test with PETG and see if it is any better. PETG is the same plastic as PET, only with added glycol for printing. PET is a stronger plastic, printed at a higher temperature. The downside is that I have to re-configure all my printer settings and experiment with the PETG. It’s not as easy as just buying a new spool of plastic. First time I used it, damn stuff printed too close to the plate, was next to impossible to remove. It was a brand new build plate! Ouch. The drama continues….
