Mossberg 500 Sights

Hello All,

I am looking for a low profile, open sight for a Mossberg 500, 20" barrel, cylinder bore. Currently it has the brass bead front sight, and the receiver is drilled for a mount/base.

I am not too interested in the combo heat-shield sight as I think it may be prone to move around. Also not too interested in sights that have to be epoxied on to the barrel.

I will be using the shotgun for hunting in the bush. Idealy I would like to have some adjustability to dial it in. I may carry it in a scabbard, so would like the sights to be robust.

If anyone has any suggestions for products available in Canada, I would love to hear them!

Also interested in hearing about DIY solutions.

You could do worse than the ghost ring & post combination for the 590. I'm thinking of the earlier solid base front sight. If you can find a way to get them in, XS makes a combination winged barrel band front sight and a winged ghost ring. Brownells probably has them, but last I heard they no longer ship to Canada, you could talk to Questar or Profit River though. Sage International also makes a similar combination, you might check them out.
 
Thanks for the suggestions, I was not aware of those stores, and had not even considered third party importation! I will look into them.

The Mossberg ghost ring sight kit would be nice, but I haven't been able to find it in Canada. Got any leads?
 
Ah. I would like to avoid silver solder if possible.

Ideally I would like to be ablw to install and remove it myself (in case I dont like it).

Any other options anyone is aware of?

Install a rail and red dot (you said you are already setup for it)... probably the most versatile 'do it yourself' job you can do. I'm thinking about the white or luminous bead...
 
Too sensitive (and physically high) in my opinion. I want a nice low profile, robust open/peep sight that is attached by mechanical fasteners.

I think a harbour freight mini-mill is in my future...
