Long story short, the slide doesn't always unlock when a shot is fired. I did a bit of research and holding the slide forward while shooting seems to help some, but it isn't 100%. This can be frustrating when ducks are over head as I found out today because in the heat of the moment it's tricky to think about. This is my first pump so is this user error or should I look into it further? Gun isn't new.

Mossberg 500 Slide Release Issues

Thanks for the inspiration to get into the trigger group. It turns out one of the pins in the hammer was poking out a bit and not always pressing on the spring that trips the slide release. It's quite surprising to me that it never misfired with a pin protruding from the hammer like that. Thought I'd post my results in case anyone else has this problem.
