So I got my PAL the other day and I hopped into the nearest authorized dealer around. Aside from an assortment of bolt action rifles (including one sweet $3000 austrian "executioner" sniper rifle) he had some shotties.

I looked at the Mossy 500 Special Purpose "Persuader" with 18.5" barrel. It comes with 4 chokes and a pistol grip.

I think it's only 20ga which is a bit lame, but anyone know anything about these weapons? I'm very new to the civvie gun market, and the only shotty i've used before was the Remington 870 with the army (sweet gun though).

Tips/Advice? He's selling it for 475+tax....

also, whats the clearing period for non-restricted? Less than a day I think i've heard?

IMHO Just go for the regular full stocked Mossy 500 12 gauge, lots of different interchangeable barrels, and chokes for them, even a muzzle loader variant if you feel festive. :D

(Google their website)

I find the Mossys are a bit light for fun pistol grip action, but that might just be me. Your experience may vary, and it is best if you find the shotgun that fits you the best, and works with your budget, and what you want it for.

Hey, 20 ga. is nothing to be sneezed at. A 20 ga. slug packs a pretty mean punch.

Mind you, both my 870's are 12 ga., but I have no issues with 20 ga. It has its uses.

Now 28 ga., well... if a full blast to the face won't kill a geriatric Texas lawyer at thirty paces, I have no use for it ;).
