Hey guys so im going to be buying a new stock for my mossberg 500 in the next few weeks. The two stocks im looking at are the Knoxx SpecOps Stock and the Choate Mark 5 Pistol Grip Stocks. What do you think would be a beter buy out of the two stocks? Im kind of leaning towards the specOps stock. Just wanted to know how they are.

A buddy has the Spec Ops stock. I hate it. You cannot get your head low enough to use the bead. The recoil reduction feature is unnecessary and creates a pinch point. Not to mention your length of pull shifts with every shot. Any pistol grip on a Mossberg will render the safety next to useless and definitely inaccessible while maintaining a firing grip.

The down side to the Choate is the length of pull. Like most stocks for shotguns they are too long for most shooters, especially with pump guns. Longer stocks aren't a major concern for those who fire from a stationary position. Firing on the move or during any action shooting sport requires a shorter length of pull in order to maximize ones abilities.

Personally, I'd go with the Choate if I had to choose and cut the stock to fit. Solid stocks are stronger and the Choate is a lot cheaper.

SpecOps is the ####!

Read the threads on the SpecOps and you'll see that everyone loves it. Hell, even guys who have never fired one will tell you how great it is. Before firing one, I loved it too. The recoil with it is weird - and I'm not sure, subjectively, that it is "better". Some say it just takes getting used to.

I'm not there yet.
