I bought a used mossberg 5ooAB, I replaced the stock. The forend is wood, Over the years it has dried out and cracked, a couple of gouges in it. I was just wondering if anybody has knowledge on this gun and how to remove the forend and what type of forend would fit on it. Any help would be great thanks

its pretty straightforward.
remove the forend assembly - if you dont know how, heres a video on a full disassembly. you obviously dont need to completely strip the gun to remove the forend, but its good to know how to do it.

once the forend assembly is off the gun you need to remove the forend nut. it looks like this:

you can loosen it with a flat piece of metal. then the wood forend should just slide off.

also - apparently there are two different lengths of forend tube on different Mossberg 500 models. some have an 8 7/8" tube, some have a 7 5/8" tube. if you have the latter you may also have to get an adaptor nut for it.
