I put the full choke in for goose hunting this fall, and today when I took it out, I had to fight it the whole way. Unscrewed really hard. When I put the modified choke back in, it screwed in perfect with my fingers, and I just snugged it up with the wrench.
Any ideas why the full choke seemed to swell ?

Were you shooting large steel shot through a full choke? Not recommended at all. No tighter than modified sometime even improved cylinder works ok. Try different chokes on a pattern board to see what you are getting. Steel doesn't compress like lead does.

That was the problem... I was given bad advice. I should have asked on here before for another opinion, but a few fellas told me it wouldn't hurt anything, even though I had suspicions.

I shot about a box of Winchester blindside bb through it for geese this fall/winter. I'll have to order another full choke for it, because I wouldn't dare try to screw that one in all the way again.

Does it not say "no steel shot" right on the choke?

No it doesn't... Only thing on the chokes is "imp", "mod", and "full"

...if it would have said that, we wouldn't be having this discussion lol

Anyway... Barrel seems fine...choke is screwed though...lesson learned. As usual, the hard way.

Sometimes plastic from the wads gets built up under the choke. A good cleaning and try it again. Full chokes and blind side shot don't go together however. This is common when I shoot a lot of trap with mine

You are lucky to of gotten it out. Mine expanded to the point of being unable to move. Even the local gunsmith couldn't get it out. Just got them to run it through one of their machines that grinds it out. I still use it with no problems at clays in the summer and ducks/geese in the fall. Right now I'm trying to get a new barrel as I have thousands of rounds through it and it is by far the best shotgun I own.
