First of all, is this the right spot for this thread? I didn't know. I figured that this wouldn't fit under "black and green shotguns" but oh well.

Anyways, my brother is interested in buying his first shot gun. After long debate he is looking at getting a Mossberg 835. Now I have a Mossberg 535 and I love it! However, I know nothing about the differences between the two...both take the same shells, both come with the same chokes, same lengths.

So what is the difference? Or is there? And just for kicks, what would you suggest for a first time shot gun? (350-450$ range)

Thanks guys.

835 has back bored barrel for steel shot that's the main difference. I've shot both and went with the 535ats I found it to pattern better all around steel and lead shot #9-#4 lead and #3 steel. I got the combo with a slug barrel and its been an awesome gun. I don't like camo guns that much either
