I just picked up a new 535 3 barrel combo. Thanks to some of the guys on here that gave me some very useful tips in regards to what to look for in terms of personal fit and also in terms of quality and defects in the shotgun. I found that this model does fit very well and feels natural to point and sight. And I did bring my hunting jacket with me (at the suggestion of a CGN'er) and it was even better with the jacket on!
I took some time at the shop to check it over but upon further inspection here at home there are two things that I am wondering about. The first thing is that when I tilt the whole gun forward and backward I can hear a spring shifting around inside. Is this a normal mossberg thing? It is really odd, but does not seem to effect anything. It seems to be slightly more pronounced when the action is locked closed. I have not yet fired it, but I have cycled snap caps through it and it seems fine. The other thing that is a little odd is how much twisting slop there is in the pump handle (not sure if this is the correct term, but you probably get my meaning). I would describe the slop as extreme. I am not worried so much about the slop, but the spring thing seems really odd. Thoughts? Comments? I do realize that this is a budget gun and the tolerances are not as tight as on others, I just want to make sure it isn't defective. The shop is over 2 hours from me (one way) so I thought I would check in with you guys before I check in with them or bring it back.
