I'm thinking about purchasing one of theses bad-boyz, and I'm curious about the reputation of this particular model. I've owned a Mossberg 500 Slugster a couple of years ago, and loved it. But I'm looking for a nice "Tactical" shotgun

The Mossberg 590 Special Purpose I'm looking at isn't the one with the ghost sights.....its the model with a bead sight, heat-shield, 9-shot capacity, and parkerized...its going for $631.99 NIB from Ellwood Epps.

Does anyone own one of these???
Likes/Dislikes???

Thanks alot,
Pietro.

Mossberg has a habit of putting the bead directly on the barrel - this configuration will cause you to shoot high. If you buy the gun - which is excellent by the way - have Epps but a pedestal under the bead, or install a ghost ring and post.

I have the 590 A1 ....it didn't come with the Heat Shield but I had one added...and trust me...on a 24 round IPSC 3 Gun Shotgun course...the Heat Shield is not just for looks :)

The only difference between mine and what you're looking at is...the 590 A1 has a heavier barrell...a metal trigger guard and Ghost Rings...

I'm very happy with mine...I've never had a single issue with it...and there are plenty of after market accessories should you decide to dress it up down the road

Cheers

Quigley, can you install a heat shield on a 590 with ghost rings? The Mossberg webpage makes it sound like you cannot do it, but I wanted to add one myself. Did you have to do anything different to install it? Also, who is the maker of your heatshield?

I put one on mine - no problem.
