Mossberg 590 spring retainer.

Hello,

Is it possible that some Mossberg shotguns came w/o a spring retainer? I also read (internet) that some shooters throw them away the first time they fieldstrip them. If you do, why?

The first 590 I purchased 20 or so years ago didn't have spring retainer. Which was fine. My new 590A1 Came with retainer. You can remove it with a pair of snap ring pliers. I'm guessing they started installing retainer to avoid folks kinking their mag springs during reassembly. This is easily avoided by feeding spring into tube a few coils at a time with your fingers. Hope this helps

Thanks Patrick, my 590 is +/- 25 years old, I just wanted to make sure the retainer was not lost by the first owner.
