I am very seriously concidering getting a Mossberg 590A1.

The regular stock 9-shot model is 529.95 at wholesale.

Can I get it cheaper elsewhere near winnipeg?

I'd call the Calgary store directly and ask about that. I know that they have at least two on display as of today at closing.

I was talking to the Telephone Lady for the ordering system. Maybe the warehouse and stores have different stocks? Oh well, ignore my comment then.

Wholesale in Edmonton had a 14" 590A1 (maybe held 5 shots, had ghost ring sights and the "real" 590A1 thick barrel) ~ $470

P&D Enterprises in Edmonton has a couple 590's will all the goodies (speedfeed stock, ghost ring sight, 20" barrel, 9 shots, ...) - $525

I downloaded the wholesale catalog and item 188694 in the top left corner of page 36 shows a 9 shot 590A1 shotgun for 529.95

It does have special purpose after the title. You are right about that. But.

Is there any difference between the 590A1 and the 590A1 special purpose?

Am I missing something here?

Is it a cheap version of the real 590A1?

From what I understand, it all comes down to the Mossberg item number. The 590SP's that start with 50### are the standard thinner-barrel models with plastic trigger guard/safety. The 590SP's that start with 51### are the 590SP A1 (they come with the heavier barrel and the metal trigger guard/safety). This is the model that you'll see frequently being carried in Iraq. Man are they cool...an A1 is on my wishlist for the summer.

WSS in Calgary had at least 1 590A1 in stock today, for $529 IIRC.

I got a 870 Tactical with the Knoxx stock instead.

The 590A1 goes for a lot more, usually around $700. You guys are looking at the 590SP's.

Definately was not marked "590SP" It was clearly marked 590A1. Perhaps there is more than one 590A1, I really don't know. The barrel was like 3x thicker than other 500/590 I have seen. The trigger guard was metal. The safety was metal.

:shotgun: On that note why doesn't Mossberg have any info. on these online? Does anyone have a good link to a 590 reference?

Mossberg does have the info; I was just looking at it the other day?!? ETA: click the firearms tab at the top of the website. In the drop down menu, click on 500 Special Purpose. When the pic of the gun comes up, there are a set of right/left arrows with the words "More Models" under them. Click through until you find the 590 series.

There are several configurations of 590; that may explain the price difference.

FWIW, there was a 590A1 in WSS on consignment, in decent shape, with some corrosion around the front sight soldering, for $325 yesterday. It had a side saddle as well.

I sold my 18/12" 590A1 with speedfeed shell holder stock and hogue foreend with a weaver scope mount for $500.00 shipped last year.

It didn't take long.

I'm still searching for a 14" 590A1... I'm so desperate I would probably pay double the prices mentioned in this thread...
