Mossberg 702 tactical .22lr...what do you think?

I was considering purchasing this rifle purely to plink at the range. I think it would be fun but could be a hassle to clean considering it breaks down like a toy gun. Is it accurate? Is it reliable? I know its not a SR 22. Your thoughts on this?

Get a regular Ruger 10/22 and put a tactical stock on it when funds permit, way better gun than the mossy.

Or I would consider checking out the Remington 597 HB, looks kinda tactical in a precision rifle sorta way, but probably way more reliable and solid than the mossy.
 
I have one, and it shoots about a 3" group at 50 yrds. but it jams a lot, and there is quite a few FTF's. I took my wife shooting for the first time saturday, she loves shooting .22, but asked me if I would please buy a better one :) oh poor me.... lol

Well, I lied about a "range only toy". I'm gonna want to do some gopher hunting with it too, Lol. I would prefer it to be non-restricted. M&P 15-22 was my first choice. My bro has the ruger sr22. It is really nice. I wanted to try something different.
 
I've never shot one, but they look good from about 15' away. Any closer, and they truly look like toys. Spent a couple hours at a range this spring beside a guy trying to make one work reliably. Trying to, didn't work.

I have a Marlin 795 I paid $125 for and it runs like a top.

only FTF i had with mine is when using Winchester 555 rounds, Federal copper plated are a charm. Great entry level plinker, not sure if i would buy again for 300$ but i can't complain w:h:
 
I own both the carry handle version and the new flat top version.
First off, like any 22 you need to find the ammo it likes. If anyone tried mine using win 555 or dynapoints. I bet theyed throw the gun away! I tried over 9 different types and dynapoint grouped the best but jammed the worst. American eagle and stingers worked great. However the cost of the stingers made me choose AE. Yes the gun is plastic. Yes it's cheap feeling. However it is a cheap gun. Almost half the cost of the SR-22. So what do you expect, metal, I don't think so.
As for the cleaning, the screws suck cause they go into plastic. So yes you aren't going to be cleaning it every time you shoot. However I put about 800 to 1200 rounds before I have to fully clean it. Between cleanings I run a snake down it. Works great.
As for groupings, in a vise I'd say 1" groups @25yards and 3" groups at 50yds. Worse if you're shooting offhand. However this gun is for short range. If you want a gun that groups 1" at 100 yds, please buy a bolt action. I have the Savage BTVS and it's AWESOME!!!!
As for the Mossy, it is what it is, Plastic and cheap. However it groups as well or even better than my friends SR-22, IMO.
My friend bought a bull barrel for his SR because my mossy outshoot his $600 gun. HAHAHHAHAH
JUst my 2 cents worth.
 
I was not impressed with Win. 555's ( same fodder as 333's ) at all , but Win. Dynapoint and/or Dynapoint Target worked near flawless through mine and is my 1st choice go-to ammo. Federal Champion ammo worked very well , again , near flawless.
CCI ammo worked out very well too..(they'd better work well for the extra cost. )

I just cleaned down my Mossy tact yesterday , after over 1200 rds burned through it , took me about an hour .
I know the Ruger 1022 platform is a very good unit from past expierience , however , my purchase of the Mossy is very positive and looking forward for the purchase of the flattop .

It's all about personal preferance...some prefer blondes , others brunettes...
