Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag Pump Action

I have no issues with mine, have not shot it much. Mine is the older field model before they made porting in the barrels. I have it set up as a strict deer gun with red dot and rifled barrel.

Heavy gun, shooting 3.5" shells should be left for auto loaders. I would not shoot 3.5" out of it as the recoil is incredible.

Same old sloppy mossberg foregrip slides.
 
With the ports, 10g barrel and fibre optic bead, I think it's one of the best values going in a waterfowl gun.

That overbore barrel makes them shoot surprisingly softly, even with 3 1/2's.
 
I have one , very nice gun, wanted to use mine for action shooting so we made some +2 mags tubes for it.
But as stated shooting 3.5" shells is very painfull!

My hunting buddy had one, and loved it. I shot it for a while too, and had no complaints. Forend is sloppy, as noted, but the overbored barrel is nice. Looks like 10 gauge!

The tang safety is the only thing I wish all my 870's had (yes, I'm a lefty!).
 
Sounds good, I am going to chose between the Mossberg 535 ATS combo or the 835 ultra mag combo. Seems the only difference is the overbored ported
barrel. Is it worth the extra cost?
 
i have both. handle them both i hate the way the 535 feels and love my 835. i shot skeet with it and geese a 1000 rounds a year greatest gun ever
 
I have owned several 3.5 shot guns the over bored 835 shot the best pattern with steel over any other I have tried
 
Just bought an 835 turkey gun. Read through the manual and Mossberg states that you should not shoot slugs through the over-bore barrels. Didn't know this prior to reading the manual. Mine's going back for an exchange. I told the dealer that I needed a gun to use for defense in the bush and will be shooting slugs, #4buck and turkey loads. Luckily I haven't ordered the extra chokes yet.
The over-bore barrel isn't the ticket. Although it isn't ported like the the others, I would have kept it if it could have been used with a slug choke. It is hard to find a gun that's perfect for so many needs without buying two different guns. So even though it will be louder going to the 535 or 500, I have to compromise. Maybe I'll find a non-ported barrel that accepts chokes some day.
So my money is on the 535 or 500 Tactical turkey. I like the pistol grip and I have a 12" LOP. I like that I can tuck the gun up close.
The 835 seems like a nicely made gun. It also seemed very tight and quiet compared to some of the reviews I've read. Good Luck.

I have a 835, I love the gun. Fires all manner of shells well. Bout the slug barrel for it and it works good too. The only concern I have with it is sometimes when i fire, a shell comes out of the mag tube. I'm thinking the spring loaded jaw needs to be tweaked. Other than that, great gun.
 
Good reliable gun. I bought mine the first year they came out. Only issue was the ball bearing in the safety came out. Fixed it myself.

I also have the rifled deer barrel, shoots well with several loads.
 
I had the same experience with recoil and the 3&1/2" rounds being BRUTAL. Put on a Knoxx recoil absorbing stock and now 3&1/2s are a firm push. Best $175 I have spent on gun stuff.
 
Have had an 835 with the turkey/deer barrel combo for a number of years and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I very much prefer the tang safety. If I could find a Mossy Oak 28" barrel for waterfowl for it, I'd use it for all of my shotgunning for sure. Still have to resort to the 870 for ducks geese for now.
