Mossberg 835 Waterfowl

I'm looking at getting into slug shooting. Will the 28 inch ported barrel take the slugs or would it wreck the barrel? It says it is an overbored barrel. I take that to mean the barrel is larger than the standard 12 gauge diameter.

Any info on this would be great. Thanks in advance.

I just bought this model yesterday... mossberg 835 in wood grain with the 28 ported barrel... very nice shotgun i must say, Haven't fired it yet tho.. but from what i hear, slugs are not recommended with it unless you buy the appropriate slug barrel which mossberg offers. The overbored 28" barrel can make the slug unstable and accuracy with the slug would suffer also "could" potentially make for a unsafe condition...

The Barrel is overbored to nearly 10 gauge.

That's kinda what i figured. I got the synthetic version so it is light. It spanks your shoulder pretty good with the 3.5" shells.

Overbored barrels are not accurate for slugs. Mossbergs rifled slug barrels however are amazingly accurate
