As you may know, I purchased a Mossy 930 the other day. I inspected it a little more thoroughly last night. The receiver and trigger housing isn't steel, most likely textured and hardened aluminum. I'm fine with that. The trigger group looks surprisingly simple; very few parts compared to other guns. It also looks to be 'non-heavy duty' design. For example, I would describe the guts of the A-5 as truly heavy duty, a 100-year gun. I can imagine having to replace a part or two in the 930 group before passing it along to the next generation. But the trigger seems crisp, and just the right weight. The bolt and the barrel seem rugged and well made, and everything does slide and lock with solid steel authority. The rib looks sturdy, and the barrel has a matte finish - soaks up BreakFree pretty well. The gas rings are steel, but there's some sort of a lightweight tube (alum?) surrounding the magazine tube, not sure what it's for. It looks like it could be easily dented or bent if mishandled, not sure. Another thing is that the rings stay in the barrel's gas cylinder section when you pull the barrel off. Looks to be easy to access and clean, however. What's different is that where there are normally action bars connected to the bolt, are simply two stubby pusher 'arms' that act on the bolt. They aren't fixed together, they just push back on the bolt and then the 'action bar' block springs forward independant of the bolt. Otherwise, it looks like a basic 1100 design.
The gun has nice feel and balance, and shoulders nicely. My eye drops right into place. It isn't weighty, they say a little over 7 lbs, and my hands hold it comfortably. The fore end and wrist have effective checkering, not a pressed image of checkering. The barrel is ported, so that's a first for me. I think it'll be a little louder, right? Came with 3 chokes, and a red high visibility sight - very nice. I also like the safety under my thumb, just like a double gun.
I can't wait to report back on how it shoots!
