i have noticed a fair amount of interest in shotguns for deer hunting and wanted to share my build and opinions for those interested.

i would first like to say that this is my first firearm that i have purchased but by no means my first time shooting.

when i started looking for my first gun purchase i wanted an all around shotgun for waterfowl hunting and early season deer, so i was in-between the 930 and 935 but upon talking with the folks at milarm i learned that the 935 was not recommended because of the back bored barrel. so i went with the 930 turkey model with fibre optic front and rear sights.

i know that the turkey model was not the best choice right of the shelf but with the modifications i had planned it was the best starting point. i made sure to order a few chokes right away as the xx full turkey choke was not gonna do me any good with slugs, i ordered an IC choke for slugs and ducks and ill use the xx full to make trap shooting a little more interesting.

my first mods were a picatinny rail and a vortex strike fire scope. i wasnt sure how it would hold up to the shock of high velocity slugs but the lifetime warranty made me a little more confident. the scope did very well right out of the box i tried it with the magnifier at first but i found it made the sight picture rather dark in the indoor shooting range. but as soon as i took it off my shots were grouped very tight and i could shoot with both eyes open.

i have shot about 200 slugs through it at this point and i am very impressed

out of the 200

2 failure to feed
5 failure to fire (Remington slugger 3" high velocity 1875 fps)
2 failure to eject

it really likes the federal premium rifled slugs above any other brand

after i had the failure to feed and failure to eject i took the time to disassemble the shotgun and lube and give it a good cleaning. after that it ran flawlessly.

on closing i would like to say it has been a great first gun, fun to build fun to shoot and i hope to be showing you guys a nice buck next fall.
