I recently purchased a Mossberg 930, Wood Stock, 28" barrel, waterfowl (from SIR). The gun is built fairly solid, about what you'd expect for under $500. I'm having some problems with it though. The trigger guard cocking indicator doesn't seem to work at all, it stays out no matter what. It came in the box out and it hasn't gone in at all. Also, the forehand nut wants to loosen as I shoot and this makes to forehand and barrel want to move a little. I called SIR and they told me to send it back, but I presume it will be gone for a couple months, Do they send it to Mossberg?, and hunting season is just around the corner. I don't care about the cocking idicator, that always seemed like a useless option anyway, but the barrel nut is annoying. Any ideas for a temporary fix? I wonder if the exhaust from the gas piston is warming up the wood and causing the issue? Would blue thread lock be a suitable option? The gun has cycled very reliably and it patterns good. I have some patterning targets I will post later tonight. I shot Kent BB Fasteel and some Winchester Super Target #8's.

Pictures of the patterning I did.

30 yards, 30" circle. I shot off hand, so the patterns aren't perfectly centered.

BB - Kent Fasteel 3" - 1 1/4oz
#8 - Winchester Super Target 2 3/4" - 1 1/8oz

Someone has access to a large format printer ...

Conventioanl patterning @ 40 yards - 25 yards for a 410. (Choke/pattern % )

Skeet shooters, pattern @ 21 yards, Trap Singles @ 34 yards. (Coverage)

16 yards ( P.O.I. - gun fitting) )

30 or 35 yard patterns will give you an idea of pattern density at the typical ranges frequently encountered in bird hunting.

Yep, I work at an Engineering firm. I drew the target in AutoCAD and printed it in draft mode, that's why there are lines don't look very defined. A piece of plain paper works just as good! 30 yards seems to be the range I take most my shots, so it made sense to me. The targets are 36" square except for the IC patterns, those I printed at 42" square. I recommend that everyone pattern there shotguns, it helped me a lot.

I'm going to send it back and get Mossberg to go over it. The issues I have aren't huge, and I like the way the gun shoots. It has cycled a lot of loads with no problem. I've always heard that Mossberg has good customer relations, so I'm sure they will take care of me. I'm going to try some thread lock this weekend, I hope that will get me through the hunting season.

Clean the threads with brake cleaner/degreaser, and then snug it up. Keep adding torque if it loosens up until it stops. DON'T use a wrench, though.

Thanks for the help guys. I called SIR and they will make it right. However, it didn't sound like it was possible for a new gun to come instead. I will have to send this one back for service work by Mossberg, at least that's how I understand it.
