Thanks to all that replied to my first thread regarding shotgun suggestions. I have since gone into a store, held a few, and spoke to some of the guys there whom I do trust as honest. Unfortunately not a lot of Berettas to handle though.

I think I have narrowed it down to the Mossberg 940 JM pro and the Benelli M2 Speed Performance. Both of them had good ergos for me and both fit what I am looking for. Competition orientated, but versatile enough to take on a hunt or just shoot some clays. The Mossberg I can get all in for about 1,300. The Benelli is about 2,200. I have heard mostly positive things about the JM Pro, but did see some posts about reliability issues. The Benelli is a Benelli of course, but I could buy myself a boatload of ammo and other accessories/toys along with the Mossberg for the price of the Benelli. And it's not like Mossberg is a bad brand, have owned two pumps from them that were remarkably reliable and well made for the price.

Can any of you comment first hand on the reliability of the Mossberg? It has been out for a few years now so my hope is the kinks have been worked out, if there were any. Or if the Benelli is worth such a price tag, especially when pitted against this Mossberg?

Thanks all.

What, no Beretta 1301 Comp Pro in this line up.

M1 might be worth a look. The Anniversary edition is essentially M2 metal in slightly cheaper plastic. Leaves lots of $$$ room for upgrades and practice ammo. I think it only needs a better recoil pad and a mag extension, and for nice-to-haves sky is the limit

dferr,

I`ll give it shot to tell you about the reliability of the 940 JM Pro was designed to compete out of the box. I think I know it pretty well inside out...

I`ve been shooting this gun with close to 2000 rounds of all kinds with no issues whatsoever and having other people shoot it at ranges this gun is just amazing for ALMOST half the cost on anything else on the market (with those specs).

It was reconfigured from the 930 JM Pro by Jerry & Lena Miculek they know how to build a shotgun (both multiple times World Champs)

Out of the box
New gas system 1500 rounds before cleaning (if you want to)
LOP 13 to 14.25
Extended Brilley Chokes (3)
Hi Viz fiber optic sights
Over sized controls
Fast as hell

PS: not saying Benelli is not good, great brand great product (just at the cost of the 940 JM Pro, like you said that`s a lot of ammo and more ammo)

Here are a few links video of the 940 JM Pro

Really great to hear some first hand experience, thank you. After 2000 rounds I would say you have some authority on the matter too. Exactly, I mean who doesn't want a Benelli in their collection? But for the price and at the stage I am at now it is hard to justify. Also hearing of Tier One Armory for the first time, so double thank you. Always great to find new local shops.
