well I just bought my first shotty - > Mossberg Mariner 500. :)

Now I need some goodies for it. How hard is it to shorten? (legally). If it is too dificult to shorten (finding a 14 inch barrel) I'd likely prefer to extend the mag tube to the length of the barrel so the match.

Where can I get the parts to do this extension?

I'd also like to mount a pump handle more like the FABARM, is a part like this available?

I just picked up the same shotgun a few weeks ago and tried it out at the range today. I was plauged with jams, midfeeds, sticky parts, and to top it off a shell was jammed in the action. Not tom impressed with Mossberg, thinking of going with a Winchester or Remington in future.

Hmmm .... thats odd since the Mossberg actually out performed the Remington 870 by USMC tests. They are used side by side with the 870 as breeching tools.

Ill see if I can get the link.

I have to say that Mossberg dont have the "fit & feel" of a Remington, but the price is most often better. I agree, an 870 may be a better all around SG.

Does it have MarineKote? The finish will be removed at the muzzle by shortening, and it can only be shortened to 18 1/2".

To lengthen the mag tube, you will have to buy a new mag tube AND BARREL.

This one has been flawless too. (I've used it many times prior to purchasing - and seen it used)

I got looking at it tonight and when I saw that bracket on the barrel to the mag tube I realized my extension was probably not feasable.

Mine is the marine Kote mariner version.

Now that I own it its growing on me the way it is, I would sure like the barrel and tube to be the same length.

The guys with the 14" barrels on their mossbergs are the ones to talk to. They must have gotten theirs from somewhere.

Fed, I tried out my new Fabarm yesterday. Going from an 18.5" barrel to a 14" barrel sure makes a noticable difference in recoil. 3" slugs plain hurt outta the Fabarm.

The 14" Mossy barrels only came on the 590 Compact as far as I know. I do not believe they were ever offered as an accessory.

I think I'll manage with it stock - maybe get some sights, at least its tapped already for some goodies
