Considering how much more of a PITA the 500/590 series is to disassemble compared to other pumps out there, how often to you tear down these guns for a full cleaning?

Me? Never/rarely. Aside from the barrel/bore that is.
Especially since I have loosen the Magpul stock to get the trigger group out in order to remove the bolt and carrier. Let's not forget about the shell stopper bar and the second action bar that has to come out too.
All just to spray and wipe the stuff down...sheesh.

That's the beauty of the pump action shotgun, you don't have to clean that much. They never stop working... The factory 500/590 aren't too bad for takedown, but once you add aftermarket stocks, most of the time you have to take those off to start the breakdown.

I see it the same way St ^^^. I just hit the action with some CLP and wipe the excess, if I even decide to clean it.
I guess I just like to be thorough so it stays in the back of my mind.
I treat levers the same way though.

I like cleaning guns, get further acquainted with the design too.

The Mossberg design allows for easy replacement of parts. Unlike the 870 with staked shell stops, you just get a new part and put it in place. Same for the shell lifter, ejector (uses a screwdriver) etc.

Even the mag tube unscrews for cleaning/replacement.

Meh, I just run a jag or squeegee down the barrel with some CLP and wipe it down with one of my old oil cloths. I'll do a tear down at the end of the season when cabin fever starts to kick in and need an excuse to fondle my guns.

Yeah a tear down every season maybe is alright for the Mossbergs.
Im used to Remingtons and the really simple Hatsan design too.

there are not that many moving parts in the mossy pumps ,thy are easy to take apart and put back ,no biggy Dutch

A couple quick passes with the Otis system after each range trip. Full tear down once a year.

You shouldn't have to loosen your Magpul stock to get the trigger group out. Pick-up a dirt cheap set of needle files to remove material from the stock for a better fit.

Yeah, Magpul specifically states in their instructions that loosening the stock is necessary.
I used sandpaper wrapped around a pen and widened the trigger group access point on my other 590A1s stock, but it seems I still need to remove more from my 14" 590A1.
