Okay I find myself thinking of picking up a Canadian Mossberg 500. Don't know too much about these Lakefield other then there made in Ont Canada. Do they have metal safeties and trigger guards? What is the quality of these shotguns? And what do they sell for? Sure be thankful for the info. Cheers

I have a two bar Lakefield Mossberg 500 AB. It has an uncheckered walnut buttock, corncob like forend with basic stamped engravings on the receiver and bolt. Has the metal safety but plastic trigger guard. The gun shoots well, and is my deer and turkey gun with a beat up old 18 inch barrel that has bee threaded for win chokes. The original 30 inch full choke barrel appears to be the only major part not made in Canada.

These are just a tried, true and sloppy Mossberg 500.

Most will have plastic safeties. These do break. The trigger guard is plastic. These have a unfounded reputation for being fragile. 99% of these break when the owner re assembles them wrong by trying to pry the trigger group past the cartridge interrupters on re assembly. The break is usually the front tabs of the guard making it useless. I would prefer the Mossberg over the Weatherby just because of after market parts and accessories. The Weatherby has none. Factory authorized repair for the Mossberg is readily available also. I would use the Mossberg until the safety breaks (it may never) replace it with a steel one and shoot it for a long long time. The tang safety makes a shotgun very handy.

I'm a mossberg owner and fan. I have M590-A1's only 14" and 20" and a black aces 14" as well. I also have a few extra 14" 590a1 barrel kits kicking around. I have a thought of a Lakefield build, so just looking for info. They are the same as the 500 from everything I've read. What I like about them is Made In Canada stamped into the receiver! So the hunt is on for one! The right one.

I own and have owned a total of 5 Mossberg 500's. The one I am keeping is a Lakefield made one with nice wood, a nice looking bolt/receiver and a 28" vent ribbed barrel. I prefer them over an 870, but that is my personal opinion.

Have a Lakefield/Mossberg 500 replaced the plain wood with a boyds šŸ‘šŸ¼ thumb hole stock years ago, Got lots of use shooting back yard clays with the factory fixed full choke barrel.
Now it sports a multi choke barrel from a maverick 88 for a bit of versibility when clay shooting.

Decent shotgun for not a lot of money. These were Mossberg's entry into the pump competition and as has has been pointed out, they do have some detractors. Plastic does wear and break. Would I own another one? For sure.
