Does anyone have any first hand experience with Mossbergs lever action 30 30. I see they sell a bit lower than Marlins and with all th QC issues with Marlin are these guns any good or are they cheaply built junk.

Get a 10yr old Marlin 336 for around $400-$500 and forget about it-they tend to live a very long time. Even a 50yr old Marlin is a really good gun with lots of life. Then again if you have to have something new you take your chances. Maybe a good gun maybe not. I prefer not to buy maybes. You will see more Winchesters for sale than Marlins not because they sold less but I think because the Marlin owners just keep them. You have to admire a levergun thats designed to be cleaned thru the chamber easily. Its just a good design and usually a damn site tougher mech than a Winnie which is probably what Mossberg is copying now that Winchester stopped making the 94.

Kind of risky buying a marlington in these day, Epps have a mossberg 464 30-30 for 370.00 ,if someone have one ,please share your thoughts... JP.

I have a Mossberg 464. They are quite tight when you first get them but loosen up very nice after a few hundred rounds. I really dislike the rear sight leaf and had to modify it so it would not shoot 15 inches high at 100 yards using 170gr bullets.

Its an OK rifle for an OK price, other than the iron sight issues, I really haven't used it enough to comment on its life expectancy. I have a run of homelaods going, so I'll soon see how it handles with a bit of extreme use...
