Hi All,

I've been thinking about getting a Mossberg Marine / Mariner (Sorry I'm not sure which is the proper name - I've seen both used) and I was wondering what the difference is between the 500 and the 590, since it appears that the Marine(r) comes in both models. I've also seen a 500A and a 590A1, though I'm not sure if they are marine models.

I want to go as SHORT AS POSSIBLE, with an "Advanced Technology" folding buttstock with ammo holder, but STAY NON RESTRICTED. Anyone know the difference?

P.S. I should mention I ALREADY own an 870 Marine Magnum... I want both

I love the satin finish on their 9 shot...

20" barrels might be a bit longer then what you are looking for, but 9 shots! :D

Excellent... I was searching past threads and hoping one like this would come up...

Thing is for me, I want a 9 Shot 590A1 - Mariner... apparently they don't exist...

If you want something similar to 590, that is the Special Purpose Mariner (6-sh or 9-sh).

My questions are as follows...

1) The 590A1 is a MilSpec shotgun, heavier bbl then the original 590 plus a metal trigger guard where as the 590, plastic correct?

2) According to nognog the Special Purpose Mariner is similar to the 590... but does that mean it as the 590A1's specs?

3) The 590A1 has a heat shield at Ghost Ring sights... two very cool features, does Mossberg make some magical version of the "Special Purpose Mariner" that comes with all the aforementioned goodies or is this a pipe dream?

4) Finally I'm looking for pictures, of decked out 590's AND Mariners in both the 6 shot and 9 shot configurations for size comparison...

PREFREABLY with Knoxx SpecOps stocks...

It's alot to ask I know, but I'm almost completely set on the 590A1 with Knoxx SpecOps for my first gun, I do however really like the Mariner finish... God Dammit why does this have to be so complicated!

Thanks in advance!

Seth

I can get you a picture of a plain jane marine magnum with a spec ops stock! :D

I'd contact Mossberg directly with your questions, but for now I'll pimp two more pics. :D

Personally I'd get the one below, and simply add the heat shield after.

thats what i did, and i love the thing! get the ghost ring sights with it and then get the heat shield with no sights on it, bend the tabs on the heat sheild out a bit and put a pice on paper around the barrel when you put it on then pull out the paper so its doesnt scratch.. done and done and it looks evil enough to scare a liberal out of the house just by showing him a picture.

YES!

And 23/4THERE, very nice... I hear the 9sht version is KILLER front heavy when fully loaded... that true?

Don't forget to send me pics once the knoxx stock is added... because that is exactly the setup I want to see!

Thanks

yah its a little front heavy, but not worried will have lots of adrenline helping me out when I have to use it. Will get the stock when I can.

OK Back to my original question... what is the difference between a 500 and a 590? Is it just the shot capacity and barrel length?

Well it's not a Mariner or a 590 and it doesn't have the folding stock (it came with the pistol only grip) but it is a Mossberg 88 "security"

I tried to get that ATI heat shield with the sights from P and D for my mav' 88 also, but they said they don't carry it anymore. :(

I don't know why more places don't carry these, as they sell out all the time when they do. :(

pretty much, some versons have a metal trigger guard and i think it has a heavier barrel. i have both and they are very simular.

I think your thinking about the differences between the 590 and the 590A1. He is asking about the 500 and 590...

If you want the shortest possible shotgun, get a 14 incher and a knoxx top folding recoil reducing stock. This stock is the only folding stock that is long enough to keep a 14 inch bbl shotgun in the non-restricted catagory. It also reduces felt recoil, while most folding stocks increase felt recoil.
