I had a friend bring over an interesting old 22. It is a Mossberg model 44 USb. It apparently was used as a training/target rifle by the US army. The rear sight is a Mossberg branded target style peep and the front has 3 different type of posts that can be flipped up. A flat post, a post with a round bead, and a post with a small circle. It is in rough shape, but it could be cleaned up. The only issue is it is missing the magazine (clip for the untrained). I have put a request out to Western Gun Parts, but am wondering of any other places to ask.
Has anyone here fired one of these before? He may buy it but it depends on being able to find another mag for it.
Thanks in advance.

They are a nice old vintage Mossberg. While not anywhere near the value of what some vintage Winchester and Remingtons bring, the value of many of the vintage Mossbergs is climbing, especially if in nice complete original condition. Without seeing it, one you describe being in rough condition and missing a mag is worth roughly $150.00-$175.00 give or take. Pics would give a better value.
You can put a WTB ad on the EE as there are a couple of forum members who may have a magazine. There is also a company in the US that makes them called Triple K Manufacturing. Numrich may also have them but are crazy on shipping prices. Havlins may also have them but they won't ship to Canada.
See the link below for info on various Mossbergs.

My wifes grandfather bought one new in 1947, from Eatons in Montreal. He kept in the family trailer as bear defense (ha!). He gave it to me soon after our wedding , and it is a solid, straight shooting old rifle. I am going to use it to train my kids how to shoot with iron sights, once they are big enough to shoulder it properly.
I used Havlinsales.com to source a long missing front sight hood, and safety lever coloured inserts.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. WGP got back to me saying they are out of stock and have been waiting a year for their source to make a run of them. I may run an add in the EE to see what is available.

Very accurate full-sized .22lr rifle. Prob should have kept mine….
