Mossberg mvp 556 patrol will only fire 223 and not 556?

HELP! What can I do to fix this? Keep getting light primer strikes on 556 tried multiple brands. Fires 223 just fine.

556 is a military ammo which means it has harder primers. Your firing pin spring is probably just not strong enough...

Weird. Anyway, trying to sell my MVP Varmint...seems like Mossberg rifles carry a stigma. I like mine, but its seems that gun snobs dislike...mine is chambered in 5.56 also, although I never tried that ammo, only .223.

Some of the 1995 surplus brass I have used doesn't fire on the firest try. If it fails after 3 tries it gets put into a box for the MR1, which eats it just fine. Buy some cheap Tula or Barnaul. They have never been an issue.

Had the same problem. Took the bolt apart and cleaned the factory lubricant out and works fine now.

Thanks everybody. I did take the bolt apart and cleaned. Will retry soon.

Update : cleaned and lubed every component of the bolt and also added a stronger striker spring. Problem solved, no FTF today with 4 different kinds of 556.
