Mossberg MVP mags.

Ok Sorry if this is in the wrong location.

I am under the impression that magazine capacity is only limited to 5 rounds with a magazine designed to fit a semi-automatic rifle, or 10 rounds for a magazine designed to fit a pistol.

I am also under the impression that there is no magazine capacity limit for bolt action rifles.

The Mossberg MVP is a bolt action rifle designed to use AR magazines.

I think you all know where I am going with this, but can I legally run an un-pinned 30 round mag in my MVP? Also following along the lines of the LAR mags, can I not use a 30 round MVP mag (If Mossberg made them) in my AR since it was "designed" to fit the MVP?

This has, in effect, been brought up before. If I recall, Mossberg phoqued up when they advertised that the MVP uses AR mags. The reason the 10-shot LAR mags are allowed is because they were designed specifically for a pistol. That they just happen to fit a rifle is a side bonus. Maybe if someone manufactured a magazine specifically for the MVP (say, a 19-shot mag), it MIGHT pass.

i believe because it has been advertised that they "take standard ar mags" even designing them will not work. this has been covered with the remington 7615.

Unfortunately, for the time being, until a "readily available" non restricted firearm, (which is non restricted AND NOT SEMI AUTO to circumvent the magazine size restriction) is produced that uses a PROPRIETARY magazine and is not advertised as "ar mag compatible" is produced, we are SOL.
Furthermore; the magazine cannot be in any way, modified to work with standard ar rifles/mag wells. If it is, it will be deemed forth as a prohibited device.
Additionally, demand will be so high that the price of said magazine will be easily 3x-6x what it should be.

Now, this is just how I interpret the law, but I don't think I'm far off the mark.

It's a fair enough question, and was answered correctly.

It is not about what rifle the mag is used in, it is what it was designed for, and capacity will be restricted or not as such.

not only designed for, but also designated as such on the body of the magazine, much like the LAR mags or the AIA 10 rounders in the m305's.

unpinning an ar mag and stating it's a "MVP mag" don't work neither.
