I purchased this rifle back in December 2015. I knew that this rifle wasn't meant for any real accuracy, but I did expect at least a 2" group at 100 meters.
(My wifes Ruger scout was capable of outstanding accuracy, 1 MOA, for a rifle in that class for comparison) so I sort of expected the same from the MVP rifle.
Firstly the rifle stock is flimsy and light plastic giving me a feeling of a cheap right from the start. I attempted to determine the bullet seating depth so I could reload and taylor the rounds to the rifle. a 55 gn FMJ is suited for the 1 in 9 twist barrel, when touching the lands had about 1/16" of the base in the neck of the case and sat too far out to be seated in the magazine. I resorted to seating the projectiles to just behind the cannelure. I mounted a Vortex Crossfire scope and zeroed the rifle at 100 meters then tested many powders and loads from the Hornady manual for the service rifle and 55 gn bullet. After extensive testing and measuring, I determined that this rifle is incapable of giving even limited accuracy, the best I achieved was 3 MOA with all the testing done. (I bought a savage and tested the same loads in the savage .223 and achieved outstanding groups with these loads.)
The only two advantages that I can see is that you can use AR style mags in this rifle and that the rifle is extremely light, even with a scope. My feeling is that this rifle is not worth the cost and I would strongly recommend that If you wish to get into the .5.56 scout class, it would be well worth your cost to buy a Ruger scout rifle in this calibre.

Just my thoughts here.

That's Bizarre. I bought one several months ago and while I haven't got around to hand loading for it, I've used FAE and PMC FMJ ammo in it and had groups much better than that. Not fantastic but I figured i would work up a load for it and get better accuracy.

There's a few reviews online with good groups, here's one.

Do you think you got a lemon? Something loose/ bent ?

All the reviews I've seen are favourable with regards to accuracy, actually.

That review says he shoots a 1" group at 50yards...... And he shoots a three shot group and it doesn't look like he counts the 'flyer'.

Listen, i get the excitement about this rifle. Its cool, its a good bush gun, its a nice prepers rifle, and It takes ar mags. But it shoots as well as i expected it would. Its a cool gun to have, or take along for a hike or what ever. I would buy one and enjoy it, but it wouldnt make it out to a hunt with me. I just have much better rifles, and rifles id trust more.

I enjoy mine and often get 1-2" groups.

My best was .350" at 100 with hornady 75gr match.

And to the OP, If you want a wood stock, I have one I am not using since I installed the MDT chassis.

Thanks daver, I got rid of it as quick as I could. My wife has the Ruger version that out performs the mossberg according to our experiences. I bought a Savage M11 .223 and use that instead. I'll leave the Scout for the missus and stay with my M11.

Interesting. I can get both the 5.56 and 7.62 versions to 1" groups or tighter at 100yds no prob.

My older 7.62 version shoots 1moa out to 100. These are famous for loose rails from the factory. Mine shot horrid groups when I got it.
I have also heard the 7.62 versions with synthetic stock have bad recoil. Mine is a little older with the painted wood stock. It is very mild on the recoil.

Well, anyway, my experience with that Mossberg sort of left a sour taste in my mouth.. as far as a .223 goes, I've never had issues with Savage and should have picked up a predator M11 instead of that mossberg in the first place.. I know it wasn't my shooting skills as I can pattern cloverleafs with that Savage .223 all day long.

ive never had an issue with mine I can easily 1" at 100 yards in both the 5.56 and 7.62 in the patrol. Even the stock UTG scopes that came with them im impressed with them holding zero and even with the quick disconnect mounts. Only issue was the bolt was stiff but after using it that remedied itself

I'm confused as to why you wouldn't just seat the 55's at the cannelure? There's no issues I'm aware of with 55 gr FMJ's and seating depth like some report with VLD's, also I'd suggest that a FB bullet like the 55 Gr V-Max would be much better for 100 yd. accuracy testing.
