Good day,

As I wait for Mossberg to get back to me I thought I'd ask if anyone else has had this issue with a Mossberg bolt before. Here is my issue:

After 20-30 rounds post cleaning I get FTFs like crazy. Usually light strikes on the primer because the bolt wont #### far enough back. The cocking indicator barely moves forward when the trigger is pulled.
I removed the bolt yesterday and found that the striker assembly rotates freely when it should be pressed firmly against the bolt body. I took the bolt apart and put it back together again with no problem, chambered a round and it shot. Next round the problem was back. Clearly there is something wrong and I have contacted Mossberg about this.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your time.

I had a problem with Norinco ammo, on three occasions pieces of primer ended up in the path the firing pin travels inside the bolt body.
I had to take the bolt apart to clear the debris, once this was done it worked fine.
Didn't have any problems with any other brand of ammo just the Norinco.

I was gonna make a smartass comment like .... "MOSSBERG" but I won't .. :p

I guess first question would be what ammo are use running ?

Hmmm, I am using a mix of Norinco, MFS, and Federal. Maybe that's what is happening. I didnt see any debris but mind you I wasn't looking at the bolt head either.

I had issues with mine the first couple of times I brought it to the range. After 20-30 rounds the cocking indicator would hang and not move forward enough (or with enough force) to fire the chambered round.

I took the bolt apart, cleaned it and lubed it and it seems to be working now. I've fired hundreds of rounds since without a single issue. Whatever the issue was (I couldn't see any problems) it has worked itself out.

New gun? or is this a gun you've had a while that ran well and all of a sudden this problem occurred? Are you running the same ammo as when the gun was running well? Or did you switch brands and now this is happening?

I've had it about 2 years. Put a couple hundred rounds through it then all of a sudden it started. I switched to the cheap Norc crap from MFS. I've got time tonight I'll rip it apart.

That sounds exactly what mine is doing except I've taken the bolt apart a bunch. Maybe its the ammo gumming it up.

I have the older, pre-MDT chassis, MVP in 5.56/.223. When I use the copper cased China surplus I sometimes get lighter strikes. I assume it's the harder primers as it will sometimes fire if I try 2 or 3 times. (After 3 tries they go into the MR1 which never has an issue with them.)

Is this happening with all 3 types of ammo you noted or just one brand? Haven't tried MFS in it but Barnaul works just fine.

Finally got out with higher quality ammo and had no problem. 200 rounds not one issue. Guess it was the cheap Norinco ammo. Thanks for all the help guys!!

Just a note, Norinco uses military primers that are harder and lots of bolt guns won't shoot the stuff, AR's hit a lot harder and usually don't have a problem, but I've have had trouble with them too when my AR gets dirty.

I've used the norinco stuff in my Rem 700 to get on paper or even just to foul a fresh cleaned barrel to spare the Hornady, and have had the odd time it had to be re cocked and a second hit made, so the mossberg comments can be saved for another day.

I am confident that it was the Norinco ammo. I took it out last weekend again with 100 round of handloaded stuff (with CCI's Nato spec primers) and it ran like a champ. Not a single problem with it. I'll save the Norinco ammo for an AR or something in the future.

I too had an MVP that would pierce Norinco primers and pull the small piece back into bolt. Requiring tear down of bolt to remove said pieces allowing firing pin to move freely again.
