Mossberg MVP vs Tikka T3X OR best 223 for $$...?

I need some guidance, I have sold most of my AR stuff because of last Monday and have LOTS of 5.56/.223 ammo...
Sorry for my ignorance, I have been out of the bolt action game for a few years now. I am looking at these two, I like the idea of being able to use AR magazines with the MVP… Mvp is 1/9” twist and Tikka 1/8”
Are there any pros and cons of these two? Accuracy? Can they both use 5.56? Can you get a larger magazine for the Tikka?
My guess is that the Tikka is the more quality firearm, but I just want to make sure I’m not missing anything, I can get either one new for $850…
My budget would be somewhere between 1200 and 1500 at the most… A detachable magazine holding 6 to 10 rounds would be fantastic but no I don’t see that’s possible with the Tikka unless I order a magazine from the UK for roughly 250 bucks…

Of the two my opinion is;
The TIKKA is a pro.
The Mossberg is a con.
Not big on the magazine idea if I follow your thoughts...as far as I understand NZ banned the AR mags too (you might want to check that, I could easily be wrong).

Yes, from what I have been reading so far, most people don’t like the action of the Mossberg has it is not smooth and the boat feels funny because the action /Receiver are different in order to fit the AR magazines
 
Isn't much of a comparison really. Ive owned a Mossberg MVP that I bought cheap used it to introduce family and friends to the sport. Shot accurate but the bolt was very sloppy. Bought a Tikka Varmint and ended up selling the MVP for more than what I paid. I hate the bolt and extractor on the MVP... way to sloppy and flimsy. Skip the Mossberg and go straight for the Tikka. You'll end up selling the Mossberg later for a Tikka anyways. If the same price its no contest.

I guess my budget will be somewhere between 12-1500 or so. Detachable magazines holding as many as possible , light to medium weight. I don’t want some 26 inch bull barrel 10 pound gun that I can’t carry anywhere,
The more I read, it seems everyone is having problems with Tikka magazines not feeding properly…
Maybe it’s not the right rifle.

Howa Mini in 223, 10 round mags come standard, or a Vanguard with the LSI mag kit.
Get the cheapest Rem 700 and throw it in a Magpul stock, MDT makes 10 round mags for them. Or the LSI kit for these.
I have a 700 AAC with the 16.5" heavy barrel in one of these, it's not heavy, and the short stiff barrel is quite accurate.
Some CZ's can accept 10 round mags and they are nicer rifles and within your budget.
This Howa kit is a good deal, sell the scope and bipod to recoup $100+, get a spare mag and hard case bonus.

Depends on your criteria if your looking for a rifle that can use AR15 magazines then the mossberg is your choice, I have both the 223 and 308 MVP for just that reason. If you don't want to use AR15 magazines then the Tikka or even Ruger gunsite or howa would be the direction your leaning towards .
 
I picked up a savage 10TSR at Cabellas when they were on sale
Reviews are good on this one but it doesn’t have a 10 round magazine
 
If magazine capacity and ability to fire 556 is what you are after just pick up the cheapest bolt action you can find thats marked for 556 on the barrel.

If you want a smooth, accurate, and easily resellable firearm, go t3x. The t3x is a minorly upgraded t3 to answer your question.
 
Check out the Ruger American Ranch, it's 5.56 and they have a version that takes AR mags. The Ruger American Predator also takes AR mags, but i believe its 223 only (could be wrong though).

Also check out the Remington 783. Especially the heavy barrel version.

I just went through the process of picking a 223/5.56 bolt action rifle. I decided on an American Ranch because it takes AR mags and is one of the few bolt actions that's 5.56.
 
Buddy and I both own MVPs. They're okay for what they are. He has a laminate model, I have a synthetic scout. The bolt is not great. Very finicking on angles. Dont know if I'd buy it all over again but it was a trade deal for ammo so I'm still okay with it. If you go with MVP, go into with eyes open and cycle the bolt with some dummy round. Mine was fine until a mag was in and added friction from rounds. My two cents.
 
Thank you all very much for your help, I should have mentioned it before but I have purchased a Tikka T3X, Originally I did just the blue model, but I upgraded it to the stainless because it was only 100 bucks extra, and I like stainless… Friend works at gun shop and it was just over 900 bucks, hopefully I will get it in the next day or two!
The only thing no one at store has been clear with is whether or not it is safe to shoot 5.56 ammo?
