Anyone have one of these?

This rifle was given to me, I have yet to shoot it, but wanted to check in with anyone who might have one - this safety lever is bent, right? There's no way to actually put it on safe, I'm just trying to verify that this isn't normal, lol.

And finally, anyone know a good way of cleaning up these (I assume paint) scuffs on the stock?

They are great rifles and quite accurate.Your stock has obviously been poorly refinished but that can be cleaned up .The bent safety lever is the way they are but yours has to be tweaked to function properly. There are several Mossberg gurus on here and good advice is always welcome. You are missing the rear receiver sight by the look of it.Gun was built in the late 40s .

Thanks Dave, yep I've read that there was supposed to be a rear peep sight of some kind on this. It was given to me after sitting in someone's closet for who knows how many decades, so I'm just trying to figure out how best to restore it. Haven't shot it yet, but it feels pretty good to shoulder and aim.

Yours looks to be a post war version. They were made 1938-1946. 26" barrel, adjustable trigger 2.5 to 5 lbs. S-106 front ramp sight, S-102 rear & #4 peep which also had the 4A (adjustable) aperture. As far as safety not working try putting a yellow wall anchor in the chamber before testing. #### the bolt and put the safety on. Don't dry fire.
