(Read this on another board, thought it should be posted here if anyone is experiencing FTF in their new Mossy pump shotgun. It's a documented issue so contact Mossberg if this is the case. Post is from 2013, so it may have been fixed by now. If anyone has this issue, post about it.)

Based on several complaints, including myself, it seems there may be a QC issue relating to Mossberg's Cartridge Stopper which is causing a specific operation failure - Failure To Feed (FTF) from the magazine tube upon racking the slide.

ISSUE IS A FOLLOWS:

Seems the Cartridge Stopper is bent too far during production.

CAUSATION OF ISSUE:

Because the Cartridge Stopper is bent too far the action slide rod is going behind the Cartridge Stopper instead of infront of it. It MUST go infront of it in order to cause the shell to eject from the magazine tube.

CORRECTION OF ISSUE:

Take the Cartridge Stopper out of the receiver and bend it in the opposite direction in an effort to make it straighter. This will take some effort so dont be afraid to put some gradual and consistent pressure.

Place the Cartridge Stopper back into the receiver and try and cycle dummy rounds until you get consistent ejection results.

Repeat this step as many times as necessary.

IF LEFT UNCORRECTED:

You will wear down the Cartridge Stopper and the Action Slide Rod which will cause you to replace both items at a cost of approximately $60.

See my post for examples of excessive wear at the 400 round mark:

I replaced mine when they start to wear.

13$ is cheap insurance. And I always have a spare on hand

Funny how my 1974 Mossberg 500ATP still has the original, But my newer 500 ones wear out faster... lol...

So are we supposed to simply disregard the notice if no problem with your guns feeding?

It apparently only effects some Cartridge Stops and not others. Just copied/pasted the post from another board, made by a Mossberg shotgun owner like us. I know I've read of a few issues like this with new 590A1's, so I figured this may be the culprit.

Maybe contact Mossberg if you have more questions. I haven't experienced the problem and I'm assuming it's not widespread. Here's the thread if you want to read the whole thing (unsure if it's open to guests):

Holy thread from 2013, Batman. Is this still an issue!

To answer your question (from the Mossberg forum, posted 4 days ago)

I just picked up a brand new 590a1 (51663) today. When I got it home I checked to see how it would cycle with a full magazine. The left action bar is failing to move the cartridge stop out of the way resulting in no round fed onto the elevator. I also noticed that the action bar either stops at the point where it meets the cartidge stop or travels slightly behind it (it should end up pushed in front of it). Either way I have a non functioning/reliable gun and I am pissed. Has anyone had a similar experince and if so how did Mossberg resolve the issue? I certainly hope they don't expect me to pay the shipping if the firearm needs to go to them for repair.

This issue may not be widespread but I just want to get it out there. I haven't had any issues with my Mossbergs though. Sounds like a batch of out of spec cartridge stops being put in.

Yeah, there must have been a hiccup on the line when producing that part and some made their way into a number of guns before the issue could be identified and adjusted.
