hey all,

i have a Mossberg 535 tactical turkey that im trying to sight in for deer (with slugs) The turkey tactical comes from the factory with front and rear fibre optic sights. These sights were one of the reasons i purchased this shotgun. Anyways, i just tried to sight it in and i've run out of adjustment on the rear sight (the front is not adjustable). The rear sight is as low as it will go and the slugs are still a foot high at 50 yards. Anybody have any idas on how to correct this? Also, now im thinking about putting a scope on it, can anybody reccomend a quick release base that will hold the zero and fit the 535? Its hard to find bases for the 535 does anyone know if its the same as the 835? Thanks alot

The Weaver one piece base No. 417M fits all current production Mossberg shotguns and there are quite a few different QR type rings available for the Weaver style base. I have a Bushnell 1-4x32 in Bass Pro Redhead QR rings mounted on a model 500 with a rifled barrel. I haven't put too many rounds through it yet, but it seems good so far. As far as the rifle sights, is there any way to remove the front sight and put a shim under it to raise it?

i may be able to shim the front sight it looks like it is only crimped onto the rail. But, now that i know which base i need i may just scope it. thanks for the help

Doesn't raising the rear sight raise the point of impact? If it's dialed all the way down I think you're going the wrong way.

Say you've got a bipod on your gun so your front sight stays at the same height and by holding the stock you can line up your sights on target.

If you (for vizualization purposes) raise your rear sight two inches but stay on that same bipod, you'd have to pivot at the bipod and move the stock two inches lower to line up the sights on target. So with the rear sight higher - you have to pivot the muzzle up or stock down to still align the sights, which should raise the point of impact.

i never remember which way does what. So when i got to the range and needed to adjust i tried to visualize it. I came up with the same idea as you, but when i raised the rear the POI went up as well. The rear definately need to go lower (or the front needs to be higher).

I had a similar experience with Mossberg Ghost Ring sights... I can tell you how I resolved it. It required some work and tools, but in the end solved the problem.

I removed the rear elevation dial; I don't know how your's looks, but is it a notched wheel on threaded post that raises/lowers the rear sight?

If you look, you will see that this dial is very thick (assuming it is the same as the GRS sight). I machined off 1mm from the underside of the dial so that I could turn it down further. It worked.

This is the easiest and quickest way to do what you want and maintain the stock look of the firearm. Good luck :)

the 535 sights aren't the ghost ring style, they just sit atop the rail. The rear is attached by rivets and the front is only crimped to the rail. Im just going to shim the front and that should do it. Thanks to everyone for all the replies.
