Anyone on here own one? How are you liking this gun? Have you shot it a lot? About how many rounds have you fired though it? Would you recommend this gun or would you buy something else? I know the Silver Reserve had problems but I'm wondering if the Silver Reserve II has rendered those issues. I'm going to go take a look at one in store tomorrow. Not picking it up just seeing how the quality is. Going to start the long process of researching guns to pick out a new over/under. Sadly sold my Beretta 686, Fausti Conrad, and my CZ Redhead and I'm now shotgunless. I need another one before hunting season as I shoot over a dog.

If you have to go Turkish sub-$1000 O/U, you should be looking at CZ, Akkar, Pointer. Yes, the fixed the issues on the Silver Reserve, but they have the fit & finish of Mossberg 500.

Personally, I would stick with a "B" gun... just look for a used "beater" in your price range... there have been a few Browning Citori's come up in the last little while for under $800... they are ten times the gun compared to the Mossberg.

Took a look at one today. Two actually. A 20 and a 12 gauge. The scroll work is nicer than I thought it would be. The wood fit to the receiver is kind of okay for what it is. It looks nice. From a distance I don't think anyone would know you're shooting a Mossberg. Didn't get to try the trigger. I heard of complaints of trigger pull getting harder with use. Something I noticed is the gun is very similar to a TriStar. The chokes even come in the same container. Overall I think its a nice gun for $700 just how well will it stand up to use is the question. I don't know I might try to find a used one and give it a whirl. I was holding off until the CZ Redhead Premier comes out but I might not be able to wait that long. Hunting season is only a few months away.

Listen, if you need an o/u for upland hunting they will do well until you feel like upgrading. Everyone always suggests a b gun as a necessity. And they are damned nice firearms, but r and m guns have put a lot of birds on the table.

Your statement of "kind of okay for what it is" and" from a distance you couldn't tell the difference", kind of makes one raise an eyebrow already. What it looks like from a distance means nothing. I have had several over and unders and, as others have stated, I would buy a used "B" gun before spending $700.00 on a Mossberg. And it has nothing to do with suggesting a "B" gun out of necessity. Unless it is well used or abused, a used "B" gun or Winchester for a bit more or a used Miroku for the same price as a Mossberg will be a much better gun. The question is, why do you want to spend $700.00-$800.00 on a new Mossberg? Is it just to buy a new gun instead of used?

"From a distance you couldn't tell the difference" has a completely different meaning than, "From a distance I don't think anyone would know you're shooting a Mossberg."

I found what is called a Traditions by Fausti on a used gun rack today. The gun looks good and its screw in chokes. Looks like WinChokes on initial inspection. I know its not a real Fausti its a gun built at the lowest cost possible on contract builds from big name store like Wal Mart, Sears, and Canadian Tire but wondering if its a good enough gun. I will do some research on it. The price is very good. I couldn't find the year stamp on the gun but I suspect its under the barrel. Didn't ask if I could take the barrels off to see the code. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow on my way home from work.

I am not suggesting a B gun as a necessity... I am suggesting that a used (well) B gun for a couple hundred bucks more than a new Mossberg is a steal of a deal and a better way to go.

I have a Silver Reserve in 12ga, and my friend has the 20/28 combo. Not a problem with any of them . I wouldn't hesitate to have another one.

My bud has a Mossberg Silver Reserve, and it doubles, often.
Dunno if the II is any better..........

A fellow that I used to shoot skeet with had the same issue. After a few doubles, he replaced the gun with a 725. Like that fellow said, It just wasn't worth the aggravation of dealing with those issues to save some money

A lot of people think of an extra $200 as not a big deal. But the CZ Redhead is now $1000 + tax being $1120 for BC. The Mossberg is about $800 + tax = $896. That's a $224 difference. That's a big difference. That's shells, case, and club membership right there. So the easiest dollar you ever made is the dollar you never spent and that is why I research guns and look for valuable data that would suggest that $224 is worth saving. That Mossberg is the thing of the passed now though. I took another look at the Traditions by Fausti on the way home from work today and its year stamp is BP being a 2001. The only thing its missing is its full choke which it should of came with from the factory but it has however its Mod and ImpCy. I confirmed the choke thread pattern as Winchester as I took a Browning Invector Standard and it threaded in. The gun is priced a lot less than a new Mossberg Silver Reserve.
