Hello All,

I had my cut down to 18" Mossberg 500 smooth bore at the range today.I use this gun for bear protection and was trying out a new set of sights.Well after 5 shots with Federal 1oz 2 3/4" slugs the barrel was very fouled with paper thin pieces of lead?
Is this normal? The gun shot fine and I`m happy with the accuracy just wondering at the amount of lead left in the barrel. Also how tight do you attach your barrel?Finger tight or with some mechanical advantage(pliers):)

Thanks

I go finger tight on the barrel as sometimes I need to swap it out without any tools available. There's no worries here, your barrel isn't coming off by itself.

As for the slugs, I noticed a well fouled barrel after firing only 5

Where is the fouling? My 870 MM with fixed cylingder choke hardly fouls at all with remington sluggers, and challengers etc.

My 870 Express smoothbore fouls only around the choke, and like my MM just the tiniest bit on one streak on the bottom of the barrel.

I hardley ever clean them, cause they hardly ever need it. Are the mossy's barrels tighter than spec? Maybe just rougher?

fouling seemed the worst about 4" into the barrel. Also seemed to have a good deal of drag/chatter mark fouling all the way to the muzzle?

Thanks TOM
