Mossberg Turkey Thug shotguns... good for ducks???

hey,

I own a few rifles, and a few too many handguns. I do a big of big game huntings, and I'm getting back into duck/geese hunting here in Newfoundland.

I am shopping for a shotgun.
NOOB questions:

I like the look, and the fanch chokes, of the Mossberg 535/835/935 turkey Thugs. But are these guns only 'meant' for turkeys?

Should I be shopping for a 28" barrel to do justice to duck hunting, or can I use one of these guns with a 20 or 24 inch barrel??

If you're just going to hunt ducks and geese get a longer barrel. 28" or 30" would hold a tighter pattern at longer distances than a 20" or 24"in ever would. If you did buy a turkey gun the first thing you need to do is buy chokes that can handle steel shot. It would be different if you planned on turkey hunting too. Good luck

yes, a whopping 6-10" further. choke controls pattern, not barrel length.
 
Agree with ^. It will work for ducks I'm sure, but I wouldn't say its good. Seeing how you have to ask, I would venture to guess that you do not have a lot of experience wingshooting. I would think that the Turkey thug would be a hindrance to you to learn how to shoot birds on the wing.

If you are looking to hunt both ducks and turkey, I would shoot a turkey with a duck gun and not the other way around.
 
The 835 is a excellent choice for steel with it's back bored barrel and over bored they pattern steel better than alot of the more expencive guns .the 935 just jams too much for my taste I have had both If I was to buy another pump it would be a 835 ultimag .I like my semi so now own a Baikal mp153
