New to the forum so I gotta say hello to everyone!

Moving on... I bought my 1st gun today after firing a few of my buddys 12g's

I decided to go with the 535 turkey thug from mossberg, I couldn't resist the pistol grip...

It came with the standard issue 20" xx-full accu choke. I know that I am going to purchase the rifled slug barrel so I can double up as a deer gun.

What I would like some input on is; wether or not I can use the stock barrel set up for shooting clays, waterfowl and small game, or is a multi purpose barrel needed?

Also what shells/optics do you guys recommend/use?

Can I shoot target loads out of my stock barrel/choke??

Appreciate any input I can get, I wanna hear some wisdom so I don't hurt my new baby

That barrel will be fine. Just switch chokes for various clay games. Rifle sights may be a hindrance for aerial shooting. Mossberg slug barrels are accurate. The stock setup will work. If you buy extra barrels make sure they are for the 535 not the 500.

The whole pistol grip butt stock will be a huge hindrance for anything other than turkey or deer. That is why it is a dedicated turkey gun and not advertised as anything else. But yes if you really wanted to you could use the barrel for everything.

If you will be wingahooting do not put optics on it. If you really need optics put a red dot or a 1.5 power scope on it.

Tasco reddot works just fine, and holds the zero marviously so long as your not pumping 250rd an hour out of it. friendly word of advice though, watch the catch lip on the tube magazines on the mossberg 535's i've gone through 2 so far and both cracked and had to have the receivers replaced through mossberg. it was painless to get them to replaced it but the wait was irritating to say the least(time wasted not shooting, hangups at the border etc.).

It's mossbergs take on advertising hunting to the younger generation that comes from the hoods in the city lol. I think Quaker boy even started some stupid marketing like this too.

I don't find the pistol grip a hindrance while shooting. I use an ati 6 position adj stock quite often. Even for skeet and trap. Gets a lot of looks from old guys

The reason behind the pistol grip is to help with recoil from a sitting position. Mossbergs thumbhole stock is very comfortable as well

I shot my 20g mossberg with a Knoxx 6 position stock and I threw it out the next day. It does not soak up any recoil in fact it made it 25% worse and not only that that stock had such high comb you couldn't even put your cheek down on it and get a proper sight picture.

Those old guys aren't laughing with you they are laughing at you.

I don't care if they laugh. I laugh when I out shoot them with their kolars and high end berettas and brownings using a $300 gun
I know its not the gun!
A shotgun is just a tube that fires a cloud of shot. Just some are a lot more pretty then others

All the slow motion videos I've ever seen of shot strings none were ever round. Not splitting hairs with you but I shoot for fun and as long as I'm having fun I don't care bout the guy next to me

Try a pattern board. In my opinion other than gun fit patterning your Shotgun is one of the most benificial things you can do.
