I'm a little confused with the savage product line. Which would be more accurate for long range target shooting? The model 12 Long Range Precision Varminter or the 10fp in the same caliber?

The one with the better barrel.

The two examples you list are essentially made the same way. Just a difference in barrel length and stock. Overall, about as close to the same gun as you can get.

Get the one that you like the looks off. Have it properly bedded and trigger lightened. Either will do well for MOA or better LR plinking.

To be more specific which caliber? .223 or .308, I would say 10FP.
I was thinking .223.
I like the looks of the 10 fp. I wasn't sure if the single shot would add more accuracy.

There are significant action differences between the two. The 12 long range is a single shot which is inherently stiffer and preferred by target shooters. The material difference makes little down range difference.

A nice feature of the 12 is that it is right bolt left port. Generally easier loading when shooting from a benchrest. The model 12 Low pro is available in single shot, right bolt right port if you like. It also uses a laminated stock as opposed to the HS Precision stock. Rifle barrel twists are the same but I don't know if the contours are the same.

I believe the 12 also runs a faster twist then its counterpart which enables you to shoot heavier bullets with higher ballistic coefficients (for improved performance).

Barrel contour is "extra" heavy in the long range model 12 and 26" long!!

Some very interesting choices are available. I like the Long range single shot version myself...
