What's the most fur friendly ammo in .308 Win? Factory ammo or reloads, share your favorite recipes or tell me what's your favorite brands for coyotes hunting.

Thanks

I have not personally used them , but several people have told me they use military FMJ's with good success and minimal pelt damage on coyotes. Makes sense to me.
I don't think any expanding .308 bullet would be appropriate if the fur is the goal.

The Barnes solids are pointy enough to sew with, so if they don't hit a bone or tumble you might be able to save most of the hide. Given the cost of these bullets and the price for coyote pelts, each one harvested will probably cost you money.

Thanks guys, I'm new to coyote hunting and I had three last winter. My smaller calibre scoped rifle is a .308 so that's why I asked. I don't want to start selling pelts and I only wanted to save a few to put in the house.

If you stay off the shoulder (albeit that's the best place to put em down), you might be okay with heavier constructed bullets and be able to salvage a pelt without too much sewing.

I once shot a fox thinking the same thing, I was bear hunting at the time and smaked him in the ribs with a RN 180 at 2500 . . . it looked like someone threw a football through him. I imagine a coyote would do likewise.

Prices were actually not too bad last year, about $70 average for better ones, enough for 2 Barnes solids. :D

Foxes are considerably more lightweight, but yeah, it will be a crap shoot while shooting a .308, no doubt. With a fox even the usual coyote calibers (.204, .223, .22-250, etc) are often way too much. I wouldn't even bother attempting it with a fox. But it sounds like the OP is not looking to sell any pelts.
