I am not worried about accuracy or temp sensitivity, I am just interested in the cheapest powder with a correct burn rate for 55gr projectiles. Hopefully one of you well informed fellows can help me. I am not worried about metering just whichever powder is sometimes available and inexpensive. I would love to use Varget all the time but it is just too expensive to be worth it for plinking rounds these days. I've used ramshot tac in the past (bought an 8 lb for like 75 dollars when wholesale was closing...wish I could do that again) and it worked well, although pretty dirty. TIA.

Leverevolution seems to be something I see around regularly probably because it isbonly good for lever guns...

WC735 at $7/lb if you have a time machine.

I'm currently working on one. I'll PM you and a few others when it's completed and we'll go in on a group buy. Only a few hundred pounds of powder can be brought back though because primers are given top priority for available cargo space.

IMR3031 is available seemingly everywhere and works well. Hornady bullets love it. 55gr loads with 22.2gr to 25.5 gr from 2900-3400fps. I load mine at about 3100 fps. Easy peasy, cheap, available, accurate, and nowhere near max.

Lots of hornady bullets around too.

The only three other powders to reach those speeds do it with 2-3 grains of extra powder. That adds up.

BLC-2, but is it the cheapest or readily available, well thats another story.

It is for me currently because I have about 15+ lbs of it. I recall it being the most readily available powder that I could find in 8lb containers that would work for .223 and .308 at the time when I bought it which was a couple years ago now, back when Canpar made ordering powder and primers online still a viable option for me.

Another vote for the Dpowders. I use D4895 for the 223 and D4064 for a 308. Both shoot very well. As said above I will run out of primers first. If it ever shows up again pick up at least two 5lbers you will be glad you did.

Exact same for me. I have found CFE223 is quite a bit better thankfully.
