Most inexpensive powder suitable for 223/5.556 55 gr

I was just browsing through the different powders listed on the Hodgdon Reloading Data page and was very surprised to see Titegroup listed there.

Has anyone here reloaded 223 with Titegroup? With a 3.1gr maximum load a pound would last very long (2260 rounds/pound!), but I could also see this being incredibly easy to add too much powder and possibly very dangerous considering the case can likely hold up to 9x that volume!

After reading this thread the one thing I thought of was it doesn’t matter what the cheapest powder is. With current powder shortages if you find a powder that is suitable you buy it because if you don’t someone else will. Prices have went up drastically and we don’t have much choice pay the price or don’t shoot. A lot of good powders mentioned some currently hard to find and some are available.

After a quick google search because I knew it was a bad idea...

Titegroup (and most other fast pistol powders) will reach max pressures long before you reach a "normal" rifle velocity.
The idea in using Titegroup for subsonic, presumably suppressed loads is to minimize the gas volume while generating sufficient pressure for stable, repeatable ballistics.
Use rifle powders for rifle velocities.

Don't forget to have a drink or 2 while reloading.

I also figured it was a bad idea the moment I saw it, which is why I was very surprised to see the recipe on the Hodgdon website.
