Has anyone mounted a a2 front sight without the taper pins. My base is not drilled for pins and neither is the barrel. I was thinking of drilling and tapping a couple of holes in the botton and fastening it with set screws. Dimple the barrel, loctite and stake set screws. Good idea or bad? Anyone do this before?

Believe this is the accepted method. Spoke with TacOrd about a dissapator build awhile back, that required a front sight base and end cap to hold the hand guard in place, he told me this is how he would fasten it.

That's one way. There are others, including methods using four setscrews in opposing pairs, engaging little milled flats on the barrel.

thought about putting in 4 through the sides but concerned about the amount of "meat" on the base sides. I have access to a milling machine and can run a hole down through the bayo lug and sneak a second in between the ears for the sling loop.
