Sks...it's all you need.... for everything from "shtf" to grizz... until the cheap guns and crappy corrosive ammo runs out.....

Then you will need the next combo you can buy for less than $300..... or learn to toss javelin with the bayonet attached...

Nothing else really needs to be said after this post, but undoubtedly before long, we'll be discussing magnumitis, useless belts, pointless ballistic coefficients and lastly an article about a little old indian lady that shot a grizzly with a 22 will be posted. :)

Other than rifle weight, stock shape, bullet weights and loads....I have shot featherweight .308 and 7mm-08 rifles that sucked big time due to uncomfortable stock configurations, their light weight and recoil was not comfortable. On the other side of that coin, I have shot the Sako 85 Carbonlite rifle in 7mm/08 with hot loads of 160 grain speer bullets where the recoil was zero issue at all. My 7mm Rem Mag sits in a B&C Medalist stock and weighs in at 8.2 pounds with scope, sling and full magazine, and with my loads of the Hornady 175 grain ELD-X bullets leaving at 2950 fps I found the recoil was very tolerable. A buddy of mine had an old Remington 600 (or was it 660?) in .308 that when shooting factory Winchester 180 grain ammo, felt like it was nearly time to quit shooting for the day after one group. He has since put that rifle into a decent stock and we found it to be very nice to shoot, and not much added weight.
