I would like to mount a lower rail on my M14 shorty sitting in a VLTOR stock system. I would like to put on a AFG and either a sling mount or a bipod. I am pretty sure I need at least 12-14 slots on my rail to have enough room. I have yet to see anything that will allow me to do what I want without getting a full chassis like the Troy system, which is just too heavy (not to mention expensive) for what I want.

Has anyone done something similar to their VLTOR stocks. I think I am going to get a short length of rail with a curved adaptor, and then drill and tap it to the bottom of the stock. There does not appear to be anything metal in the lower portion of the stock, so simply drilling and then tapping in a single bolt should be sufficient for my needs.

Any suggestions?

You could get a bipod /sling mount for the front of the stock then just put a small rail in the location you want the AFG ... The vltor m14 bipod /qd sling mount is what I got ... If you we're to put a pik rail the full legth of the fore end I assume it would add some rigidity to the stock it wouldn't hurt to put jb weld on the inside of the fore end before you tapped it for the rail screws

I've got the bipod mount from GG&G, but it is raised from the stock, and too short and far forward for an AFG.

I was thinking of removing it and using the already drilled holes for it for the front screw, and then drilling a second one further back to mount the back half. I don't really want a full length rail for weight reasons so I only plan on installing what I need. I guess someone has already drilled holes in it, seeing as there are 2 holes to hold in the bipod mount, so i guess I'm good to go. I think I'll get a 14 slot
