For some time I had wanted to mount a scope to a BRNO No. 1 that is here. I find the iron sights to be decent and did find what I think is the correct front sight hood. So, at times, I want to be able to use the iron sights. It was not exactly straightforward to find QD rings for a 16 mm dovetail - that led to Warne brand Maxima QD rings - turns out the Warne rings made for the CZ 527 work perfectly, if you unscrew the recoil stud from the bottom of the one base - that stud was made to fit into the recoil slot on the 16 mm dovetail of a CZ 527.

The scope is a Leupold VX-Freedom 2-7x32 Rimfire with MOA reticle. When installed with the Warne #1B1LM (Medium height) rings, it looks about perfect for clearance for the front - but the bolt handle would run into the eye bell, before the bolt was opened all the way. I then switched to #2B1LM (High) rings. That gave me decent clearance for the bolt handle, without modifying it.

I thought to post about this - hopefully you can see on the #1B1LM card that it says it fits "most scopes with 36 mm - 42 mm objectives." With an inexpensive calliper, the front objective on this VX-Freedom rimfire scope is about 39.5 mm, so I thought that would work. The eye bell on that scope is virtually same diameter. My Google skills might be weaker than they should be - I could only find that height for sale at an on-line store in Great Britain, so the Medium height rings were bought from there.

I thought this might help to know - the "High" rings - #2B1LM - were available from an on-line retailer in Ontario, and were close to half the price of the "Medium" height - $C 130 versus $C 235

Hopefully I got enough light to show the bolt handle clearance with the High height QD rings - so far as I know, the bolt handle is original and unaltered.

Back in the 60's Leupold made a quick detachable ring for a base... but it happened to directly clamp on the old Brno 22's. I used that for a few but it seems they are long dried up...

I think I have a set of those tucked away. Leupold "Detacho".
Parker Hale also made rings to fit.

Those Detacho rings worked on a .22 rim fire but the .22 Hornet recoiled enough that they moved on the dovetail... you had to add a 'stop'.
