Hello CGNers,

I have a friend who has a Sako L597 that he brought to a local gun shop to have his scope mounted. They put two piece bases on it and the rear base overhangs the action by about 5/8" and affects the ejection of the spent cartridge. What bases should he heave on this rifle to prevent this from happening?

Please let me know when you have a second.

Best regards,

the orginal 'Sako' branded integrated ring/base wont do this as there is a small 'stop pin' on the rear ring base that prevents it from going too far forward. Often problems are encountered with some short scopes being mounted on the long actions ... but normally not a problem with the intermediate action lengths like the L579

Opti locks are Greta, if they are not too high. S &k make beautiful rings and will get your scope very low. I had a very good experience dealing with them, and there contoured rings we're very friendly to mount.

Leupold, warne, and the one piece optilock ring mounts all mount directly to the dovetail.
I'm not sure why anyone would add bases to a rifle with integral bases.
