mounting a scope on an old m77 ruger

I have a scope to mount on a m77 ruger. The front of the receiver and the back are different heights. This gun DOES NOT have the integral mounts and is drilled for weaver bases so I can't use the ruger rings. This gun is old and was cheap so I do not want to spend a bunch of dough on it.
Can I use a weaver tall ring for the front and extra tall for the back. (medium won't work on the front )
Any help would be appreciated.

Look on ebay (or your favorite online sales site) for Ruger 77 round top receiver bases, then you can use whatever rings (bases were made for both Weaver and Redfield style rings). - dan
