Hi all.
I have a plain-Jane SVT-40 I bought at a gunshow some years back. It does not have the slots cut in the receiver designed to accept the sniper scope mount. Is there any other way to mount a scope on this rifle? Not really interested in cutting, removing any metal or welding.

Thanks.

Without the rails milled into the side of the receiver already, you're basically stuck with irons unless you want to drill and tap some sort of mount on.

You could always try trading for one with the rails to someone who just shoots with the irons.

I guess it will depend on why you want the scope? For the ww2 astethic look or to hunt with, the original scopes sit very high above the rifle so if you do mount an original you can get a good cheek weld with an arctic parka on your head haha but it leaves a lot to be desired for a hunting scope

Just target shooting.
My old eyes aren't too good for much beyond 200 yards with irons anymore.
Shooting a calibre like 7.62x54r at 100-200 yards all day seems like kind of a waste.
Would like to smack the gong at 300-400 yards.

Have a look at this.

Great mounting rail but it requires the rifle have the rails on the reciever already, if the reciever doesn’t have the mounting rails already there isn’t anything out there that doesn’t require permenant alteration of the rifle in order to mount an optic.

Hmmm...well. It was what it is then.
Iron sights it is.
Glad ammo is so cheap and plentiful (for now).
I'll have to keep my eyes open for a sniper version with the mounting rails.
Thanks everyone. I appreciate the responses.
Have a great day.
