I've got a Model 760 chambered in.308. According to Remington Arms, this gun was built in 1968. I'm trying to figure out a good method of mounting a sling. Unlike its cousin, the 870, the piece at the end of the slide where the forend runs is pinned, versus a threaded end piece, like the 870.

I tried an Uncle Mike's mount, that goes around the barrel, but it didn't fit, and I didn't really like that idea anyway.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and ideas.

There should be a screw in the muzzle end of the forearm.Uncle Mikes makes a sling swivel mount that replaces this screw. You say the barrel band type didn't fit.You may have to force it open a bit wider to fit over the barrel and then pinch it back together before screwing it tight. Hope this helps. Bac4

I'll have a look... The band-type went over the barrel OK, but wouldn't close up enough in the location where I wanted to put it on the barrel. I'll look for the option you mentioned through Uncle Mikes. Thanks for your post.

Sorry my mistake. The sling/swivel attachment that screws into the the end of the forearm is for the semiauto 740/7400 series. They will work however if this suits your needs.I've used the barrel band type on several 760s/7600s over the years with no issues. Cheers Bac4

uncle mikes 1221-2= all you have to do is look it up - 760 pre 1969- why you would want it, i don't know, but HARRIS also makes an adaptor for their bipod-maybe a special order- phone your 2 local suppliers first- that may save you a trip for nothing- that's what they usually have-nothing- and you know who i mean- worse comes to worse, you can get a longer forend screw from cdn tire( it's a standard pitch) and attach a permanent forend swivel - i have a 742 on which i wanted BOTH a sling and a bipod, and i had to get a longer screw to accomodate the harris adaptor

I have the barrel band type on mine and it works fine. Just don't use the sling to hold tight for long distance prone shooting. I found that on my Lee Enfield with the sling on the front swivel it would pull the POI off. There is a reason the target LE's had the front sling swivel moved back to the magazine area.
